DCE Award

1. What is the Dyslexia Center of Excellence Accreditation program?

The DCE Accreditation is a recognition program that celebrates schools and organisations that actively support people with dyslexia. It’s based on practical action rather than theory. Participants complete creative, real-world challenges that show how they are building more inclusive classrooms or workplaces.

Any school, college, university, or organisation that wants to become more inclusive can apply. You don’t need to be an expert in dyslexia to start. The accreditation is designed to help you learn, grow, and make steady progress.

There are three levels:

  • Certified – You have begun your inclusion journey and made real progress across all pillars.
  • Silver – Inclusive practice is becoming part of your everyday culture.
  • Gold – You are leading by example and inspiring others to follow.

Each level builds on the one before it, so you can celebrate progress at every stage.

You will complete a set of challenges across key pillars, collect simple evidence such as photos, short videos, or policy snippets and share it with the DCE team. We review your portfolio and may visit or meet virtually to experience the impact in action. The process is collaborative and supportive, not an inspection.

Yes, there is a small application fee. We aim to keep it affordable so that every school and organisation has the opportunity to apply and be recognised for their commitment to dyslexia inclusion.

It depends on your pace and context. Many schools and organisations reach the Certified level within one term or a few months. Higher levels like Silver or Gold may take longer as they involve deeper and more consistent practice.

The accreditation is designed for whole schools and organisations. However, individuals such as teachers or managers can still engage with DCE through our professional development courses and training sessions.

Your accreditation lasts for two years. After that, you will have the chance to refresh your practices or level up to the next stage. Renewal is simple and focuses on new challenges and continued growth rather than repeating old work.

What is the card game about and who is it for?

Switch is an English card game created to help children with dyslexia strengthen their reading and spelling skills. The game makes learning fun, low-pressure, and engaging. While it was created with dyslexic learners in mind, it’s loved by players of all ages because it’s simply a fun way to learn the English language.

Switch builds phonological awareness and reinforces decoding skills through repetition, pattern recognition, and multi-sensory play. The five levels of the game gradually increase in difficulty, helping children gain confidence as they master one skill at a time. The format keeps players motivated, reduces frustration, and turns learning into something they actually look forward to.

The game is ideal for children aged 6 and up, but it’s been enjoyed by learners of all ages. Teachers use it in classrooms, parents use it at home, and even adults love playing it as a light, educational challenge.

Yes, we do! Wherever you are in the world, you can bring Switch into your classroom, therapy sessions, or home learning space.
