The Dyslexia Centre of Excellence

Empowering educators. Transforming learning. Advancing dyslexia education.

Dyslexia affects 1 in 10 people worldwide.
Yet too many learners are still misunderstood, under-supported, or left behind.

At The Dyslexia Centre of Excellence (DCE), we exist to change that by equipping educators, schools, and families with evidence-based knowledge, practical tools, and confidence to support learners with dyslexia effectively and ethically. We believe learning works best when it is engaging, meaningful, and rooted in how children actually learn.

A new standard for dyslexia education

Dyslexia is not a lack of ability.

It is a difference in how the brain processes language, and it requires informed and intentional support.

Too often:

  • Dyslexia goes unrecognised.
  • Teachers are expected to “figure it out” without proper training.
  • Students lose confidence long before they lose potential.

We believe good intentions are not enough.
Support must be informed, structured, and grounded in research. It should also reflect how learners engage best, through active, engaging, and often playful approaches that build confidence as well as skill.

That’s why we have built DCE, raising standards and reshaping how dyslexia is understood and supported in education.

What we do

We provide specialised dyslexia education and intervention designed for real classrooms, real learners, and meaningful outcomes. Our work is informed by research and shaped by direct experience working with children, where we see first hand how learning through play, and engagement supports progress.

Teacher training & professional courses

Practical, research-informed courses that help educators:

  • Understand dyslexia with clarity and confidence.
  • Identify early signs and learning profiles.
  • Implement effective, inclusive strategies.
  • Support reading, spelling, and written language development.

DCE Award – school accreditation

The DCE Award recognises schools that demonstrate meaningful commitment to dyslexia awareness, inclusion, and best practice.

It offers schools a clear and structured pathway to improve provision, strengthen staff confidence, and demonstrate their commitment to inclusive education.

DCE Membership

Practical learning. Playful tools. Ongoing support.

Members receive exclusive short courses, monthly live sessions, a Switch Card Game set, and access to a growing digital resource library – all designed to make dyslexia support informed, engaging, and achievable.

Grounded in Experience. Guided by Evidence.

The Dyslexia Centre of Excellence was founded by Catherine Mulvihill, an experienced educator and dyslexia specialist with 15+ years of classroom experience.

Catherine’s academic research, including her MA in Applied Linguistics, highlighted a clear gap in dyslexia specific training for teachers in Ireland, a gap that directly impacts student outcomes.

DCE exists to close that gap.

Our work is shaped by:

  • Classroom reality
  • Educational research
  • Direct work with over 120 dyslexic learners
  • Ongoing collaboration with educators and schools
